Projects:

There are 4 main YWAM ministries in Cartagena.

  1. The Training Center is in the Manga area of the city. They currently operate training from this location and have 3 rented houses. Construction is underway to build a 3 story center of dorms, class rooms, library dining and recreation area. We are trusting God for the funds to continue through the third floor, and definitely appreciate your joining with us in prayer.
  2. Located in the San Francisco area of the city where many families of African decent struggle to survive. YWAM is operating a grade school for 130 kids on a large property. They hope to build a high school and University there as well.
  3. On the island of Tierrabomba, the village of Bocachica is the home for hundreds of families of former slaves. YWAM runs a child’s feeding program, community development ministry, medical/dental clinic. They operate a beautiful oasis type base housing for the staff and volunteers that come to build or minister.
  4. On the opposite end of the island is a ministry to orphans from the city. It operates in the form of family homes with a mom, dad, nanny and 4-5 kids. All four of these ministry locations make up YWAM Cartagena and offer a wide variety of ministry and work related opportunities for teams or individuals.

    • Progress on the Cartagena Training Center

“House of the Nations” Now is a reality...

Our infrastructure is now at capacity and we do not have sufficient space to house the different works and ministries(now, we live in 3 different houses in the neighborhood call Manga). We need classrooms for all of the different programs, dorms, offices, a kitchen, dining hall, and recreation space.

    • Seven years ago YWAM was able to purchase 625 square meters of land located in the district of Manga. This was made possible through donations from churches and individuals, fundraising activities and loans. However, this project has never been about a building or acquisition of land. The vision is and has been for the past 18 years to facilitate a long term excellent service to the community and nation in the forms of training young people in missions and as our main administrative base.

  • Despite the fact that we do not have our own building  we are able function.
As time passes, more people want to come and take part with us. We have seen the need and have taken the challenge to build our own home here in the City of Cartagena to help house all of the current and the upcoming projects here. We own a piece of land here in the Neighborhood Manga in Cartagena and now we are on the third floor of construction of our building. Everything is just waiting to be completed.

    • Bocachica Feeding and Medical Clinic
(on the Island)- Clinic is being built and the feeding center is almost complete.

    • Street Kids Ministry at Tierrabomba
(on the Islands opposite end from Bocachica) They have their own property, 1-house is finished for a couple, single and 4-kids. Second house is 50% done, but waiting on funding and for long long-term staff.

There are a number of ministries that mission builders could help with including the preschool, local churches, prison ministry, evangelism, children’s ministry. Knowing Spanish would be helpful and in some locations a translator is needed.

Religion

The country is predominately Catholic but the Evangelical church is very strong in Cartagena.

Team size
This depends on size of schools at the time. They can handle about 20 people total when schools are on outreach.

Ministry Opportunities
Team members can participate in any of the outreaches which typically happen when the schools are running. They can work with the schools, do prayer walks, corporate worship on Sunday nights and help with the medical clinics. There are many -especially opportunities in Cartagena. Spanish tracts and bibles can be distributed as well.
