Projects: There are 4 main YWAM ministries in Cartagena.
“House of the Nations” Now is a reality... Our infrastructure is now at capacity and we do not have sufficient space to house the different works and ministries(now, we live in 3 different houses in the neighborhood call Manga). We need classrooms for all of the different programs, dorms, offices, a kitchen, dining hall, and recreation space.
Despite the fact that we do not have our own building we are able function.
There are a number of ministries that mission builders could help with including the preschool, local churches, prison ministry, evangelism, children’s ministry. Knowing Spanish would be helpful and in some locations a translator is needed.
Religion The country is predominately Catholic but the Evangelical church is very strong in Cartagena.

Team size This depends on size of schools at the time. They can handle about 20 people total when schools are on outreach. Ministry Opportunities Team members can participate in any of the outreaches which typically happen when the schools are running. They can work with the schools, do prayer walks, corporate worship on Sunday nights and help with the medical clinics. There are many -especially opportunities in Cartagena. Spanish tracts and bibles can be distributed as well. Children They are welcome to come but the streets around the YWAM houses are very, very busy. Language Spanish – Some of the staff are fluent in English. Most events have an interpreter. The main language is Spanish but Cartagena is a tourist city and many people speak English. Transportation The base will have someone to meet you at the airport and take mission builders to the base in a taxi. Buses and taxis are the best way to get around. It only costs three dollars to go from the base to the airport which is about 5 miles from the base. To go into town is 3.000 pesos, about $1.50 for a car load of 4. Most travel is done by taxis or walking. Length of stay One week to one year. Best time Rainy season is from May to November - Dry season December to April. The temperature is always about the same but the dry season feels cooler because lower humidity and higher breezes. Temperature usually in the high 80’s. Dress code Bocachica area – Work - jeans and Capri’s for women, men can wear shorts. Church - Nice slacks for men and dresses or skirts for women. Cartagena – same as above for work but shorts can be worn but women still need to wear dresses or skirts. Colombian’s wear nice cloths to church. Slacks are appropriate in most churches for women but dresses and skirts in the more formal churches.
Visas and Exit Tax For US citizen a visa is not required for under 3 month outreaches. The maximum time for a tourist visa is 6 months. Exit Tax - $42.00 for stays under two months. $63.00 for longer stays. For US citizens a visa is not required for under 3 month outreaches. If staying longer a missionary visa came be obtained in Cartagena.
