Youth With A Mission

YWAM Belize, began in 1978 by a team from the YWAM base in Salem, Oregon, USA. In 1980 they began an agricultural ministry named "Project Lo.R.D." (Long Range Development). The property of their present campus was donated in 1982.

The focus has been discipleship and training. The first training school began in 1983 and the students spent much of their time outside of the classroom chopping a space in the jungle so they could begin to build. The construction and development continued over the years to the point where the training facility has been well established.

The Ministry
We currently offer the Discipleship Training School (DTS) once a year. This is the entry to all further training and long-term work with YWAM. It is a 5-6 month school that aims to prepare the messenger of the gospel in his/her relationship with God, with the spiritually lost, with family and friends and in the battle with demonic spiritual forces. It focuses primarily on the development of Christian character and obedience to God. Three months are spent on campus in training and 2-3 months are spent on outreach, applying the material learned in a cross-cultural context.

Through the Short Term Outreach Program we host Belizean camps and retreats as well as international teams who participate with us in evangelism, Bible distribution and practical projects such as campus maintenance and construction.

Besides these we are involved in a variety of other things including hosting seminar/conferences for pastors and making our campus available for use by the Christian community as a whole.

The Country
Belize is a small country located below Mexico's Yucatan peninsula and east of Guatemala. It occupies 8,866 square miles, which is slightly larger than nearby El Salvador, Central America's smallest country. Belize is culturally unique. Although it is predominantly Caribbean in culture and race, there is a large Spanish-speaking population, which makes Belize the cross over zone between the Caribbean and Central America.

The population of Belize is roughly 245,000 and the official language is English.
